"I will meditate on Your precepts and fix my eyes on Your ways."
- Psalms 119:15
- Psalms 119:15
As a believer in Jesus Christ as my savior, I am called to live a life of service. A life of love. A life of obedience. I am called to look to the Father for guidance. I would like to be able to say that I am the “perfect Christian” that spends time daily in prayer and digging into the Word, pursuing my walk with excitement and diligence.
But you know what? Technology happens. Hobbies happen. Relationships happen. Careers happen. Social events happen. Back to back; one right after the other. And before I know it, hours have passed, it’s getting late, and boy am I tired. So maybe I skip out on opening my Bible or spending time in prayer. I definitely enjoy these distractions, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with them. In fact, they can be very life giving. But once these distractions take over my life and I place them in a position of higher importance than my spiritual walk, they become a problem. They become idols.
As humans, we are attracted to new things. When I first became a Christian I was on FIRE for God. As the newness wore off, more and more I found my desire to pursue Him overshadowed by some fleeting distraction. “Enjoy the Silence” is track 4 of the upcoming #ScatteredAlbum. It is simply a prayer, “God – help me to slow down, to focus on the things of You, to enjoy the silence, and give You my undivided attention. Take me back to the start.”

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

Lyrics:
Why can’t I slow down?
Where is my rest?
The sights and the sounds, they are always around
Vying for my attention
Every distraction
pulls me from You
They’re truly unnerving, yet so undeserving
God, give me strength to pull through
And learn to enjoy the silence
And still my aching heart
Help me be quiet
Take me back to the start
When I first had found You,
You were all that I had
All that I needed, but others competed
Do I love them instead?
Help me to enjoy the silence
And still my aching heart
Help me be quiet
Take me back to the start
Why can’t I slow down?
Where is my rest?
The sights and the sounds, they are always around
Vying for my attention
Every distraction
pulls me from You
They’re truly unnerving, yet so undeserving
God, give me strength to pull through
And learn to enjoy the silence
And still my aching heart
Help me be quiet
Take me back to the start
When I first had found You,
You were all that I had
All that I needed, but others competed
Do I love them instead?
Help me to enjoy the silence
And still my aching heart
Help me be quiet
Take me back to the start
